In New Delhi, thousands of demonstrators were arrested during protests against an electoral law reform, according to local media reports. The police classified the rally as illegal due to a lack of permission and had it broken up by security forces. Even before the planned meeting point at Jantar Mantar square, participants were dispersed, arrested, or forcibly removed.
The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), which had called for the so-called cockroach protests named after its movement, states that its leaders Abhijeet Dipke, Saurav Das, and Ashutosh Ranka are among those arrested. According to media reports, Dipke was arrested at New Delhi airport after police officers demanded that he cancel the protests.
The CJP, a viral, Gen Z-driven satirical movement that originated as an online joke and evolved into a real-world protest force with street-level actions (particularly at Jantar Mantar in Delhi).
