Some athletes play basketball; others electrify an entire arena. Sophie Cunningham clearly belongs to the latter group. This clip is a burst of energy—featuring arena highlights, poolside laughter, podcast fun, and pure zest for life—showing exactly why so many fans have taken this American player to their hearts.
Her story begins in Columbia, Missouri, where she was born on August 16, 1996. After becoming a McDonald’s All-American at Rock Bridge High School, she stayed close to home and played for the Missouri Tigers from 2015 to 2019. She made program history there, finishing her college career as the all-time leading scorer with 2,187 points and earning three First Team All-SEC selections.
In the 2019 WNBA Draft, the Phoenix Mercury selected her with the 13th overall pick. She wore the Mercury jersey for six seasons, playing 182 games for the team and reaching the WNBA Finals with Phoenix in 2021. As a long-range shooter, she ranks among the most accurate players in the franchise’s history.
Sophie Cunningham in full action—whether she’s roasting the refs in her head, standing up for a teammate, dancing for the camera, or simply making it clear that she’s not going anywhere—she’s the enforcer who never holds back. That’s Sophie for you: confident, direct, and possessing that special something that keeps social media buzzing. Short, sharp, and 100% Cunningham.
In early 2025, she was traded to the Indiana Fever—and in her very first season there, she celebrated winning the Commissioner’s Cup, the first in franchise history. She signed a contract extension with Indiana in April 2026. Fans love her not only for her shooting ability but also for her commitment: when it matters most, Sophie stands up for her teammates.
And off the court? She proves that professional sports and having fun go hand in hand. Whether she’s jamming to music in her hotel room, grinning broadly in the pool, or hosting her own podcast, Sophie Cunningham always comes across as authentic, approachable, and full of humor.
That is exactly what makes this clip so endearing: it shows an athlete who works hard, cheers loudly, and doesn’t take herself too seriously.
Sophie—please, keep it coming! Anyone who radiates such passion wins hearts—no matter the outcome of the game.
False reports regarding her dismissal: Recently, viral fake news has been circulating online claiming that Cunningham was let go by the Indiana Fever. This is demonstrably false: Cunningham cannot be “dismissed,” as her contract expired following the Fever’s elimination from the playoffs, and she is now officially a free agent. Away from the hustle and bustle, Cunningham used the offseason for a sentimental visit. Together with her sister, she traveled back to her old university (Mizzou) and visited the women’s basketball team there.
