Major New Investment in Saudi Arabia’s Jeddah Port Aims to Reshape Global Trade

Saudi Arabia is giving one of its busiest ports a serious makeover and this is not the kind of renovation where you simply paint the walls and call it a day.

A new $434 million investment from Saudi Arabia’s Red Sea Gateway Terminal (RSGT) and France’s CMA CGM Group will help develop Terminal 4 at Jeddah Islamic Port. The project is expected to add up to 2.6 million TEUs of annual container-handling capacity, making the port better equipped to handle some of the world’s largest ships.

Why Jeddah Matters

Jeddah Islamic Port sits on the Red Sea, giving it a strategic position between major markets in Asia, Europe, and Africa. That location makes it an important gateway for goods entering and leaving Saudi Arabia—and potentially an even bigger player in international shipping.

The new terminal will feature deep-water berths and 10 new ship-to-shore cranes. In simple terms, bigger ships will be able to arrive, load and unload more efficiently, and get back on their way without spending unnecessary time waiting around.

Growing Demand for Trade Routes

The investment comes as Gulf countries are paying more attention to alternative trade routes because of disruptions around major shipping chokepoints. Saudi Arabia has been increasing the importance of its Red Sea ports as businesses look for more resilient ways to move goods. Jeddah is already showing strong momentum. DP World’s Southern Container Terminal handled more than 221,200 TEUs in July 2026, its highest monthly volume since the company began operating there in 1999.

Jeddah’s Role in Vision 2030

For Saudi Arabia, the port expansion is about more than moving containers. It fits into the country’s broader Vision 2030 strategy to diversify the economy and become a major global logistics hub. So while most people think of ports as places where giant ships come and go, Jeddah is becoming something much bigger: a potential crossroads for global commerce. And with billions of dollars of goods moving across the world’s oceans every day, having a bigger doorway to the global economy certainly doesn’t hurt.

One-Pan Garlic Chicken and Vegetables

When you’re hungry after a long day, the last thing you want is a kitchen full of dirty dishes staring at you like they have unfinished business. That’s why this one-pan garlic chicken and vegetables is a weeknight hero.

It’s simple, flavorful, filling, and best of all you only need one pan!

Ingredients

  • 500 g chicken breast or chicken thighs, cut into pieces
  • 2 cups mixed vegetables, such as carrots, broccoli, and bell peppers
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon dried Italian herbs
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • Lemon juice, optional
  • Fresh parsley, optional

How to Cook the Chicken and Vegetables

Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the chicken pieces and season with paprika, salt, and black pepper. Cook for about 5–7 minutes, turning occasionally, until the chicken is nicely browned and almost cooked through.

Add the minced garlic and cook for about 30 seconds. Try not to let it burn garlic goes from delicious to dramatic very quickly.

Add your vegetables to the same pan and stir everything together. Cook for another 5–8 minutes, or until the vegetables are tender but still slightly crisp.

Finish and Serve

Pour in the soy sauce and sprinkle over the dried herbs. Give everything a good stir so the chicken and vegetables soak up all those delicious flavors.

Cook for another minute or two, then turn off the heat. Add a small squeeze of lemon juice and some fresh parsley if you like.

Serve hot on its own or with rice, noodles, or crusty bread.

And there you have it: a hearty homemade dinner with plenty of flavor and only one pan to wash afterward. Your stomach is happy, and your sink can finally enjoy a peaceful evening too!
